So Aunt Sarah came up from KY for a nice visit, and Katie got swaddled, Mama Martin style!

Clueless in the kitchen
Parent's lunch date
So while the Dobsons were still in town, Jackie and I thought it might be wise to have a "lunch date" while the G-Parents watched the little sprout.
So, while Charlie got Katie all tired out...

We got dressed up for a glamorous date at a fancy restaurant...

Said our good-byes to Katie (who was asleep by then):

And took off to enjoy the finest dining New York City has to offer:

Jackie peruses the gourmet menu...

When she SUDDENLY REMEMBERS she can have caffeine again--here comes her first Dr. Pepper in 9 months!!! (look at that elation on her face!)

Without any shame, I ordered a burger that made the top 10 Worst Foods in America list:

Meanwhile, back at home...

We finished up, having stuffed ourselves...

And we came home to find this little angel...

Kaite in her Natural Habitiat
NATURAL HABITAT...
As we study the wild Katie, which is obviously the purpose of this blog, I thought it would be helpful to devote some mega-pixels to her living quarters. Random note--when one calls this room "the nursery" it somehow seems less real that I TOTALLY HAVE A KID than when one calls it "Katie's room."
I mean, a sterile hospital has an nursery, and churches have nurseries (by the way, if you have ever volunteered to help in your church nursery, MAY GOD RICHLY BLESS YOU), but this will be...HER ROOM.
Think about what that means..HER ROOM. Like, when I say "GO TO YOUR ROOM," (not that I will ever say that, but...) this will be the destination she and I have in mind. Yikes. How will she decorate it? This is where she will hang her first poster...who will a kid-friendly celebrity be when she is in grade school? Will it still be Hannah Montana--(Daughter of a KY native)? The Jonas Nephews? Who knows? Katie knows, and, well, she is not telling.
Oh man. I just thought of something.
What if KATIE becomes famous? What if she is the poster child? What if this very blog is the spark that ignites her blazing path to stardom?
Yikes.
Well, anyway this was supposed to be a post about her natural habitat, and the delightful transformation my wife made in it. Jackie (with help from the Dobsons, and our countless uber-generous friends and family) made Katie's room look great.
Here are the BEFORE AND AFTER pics to prove it:
Starting with the floor, here is the floor to start with:
Then we began painting the floor…

Finally, we put down a big green area rug that matched the floor paint nicely:

With the floors done, Charlie and I moved the furniture into place:
Rocking Chair (with hutch behind it)

Wooden Rocker:

Dresser:

Slight personalization on the dresser to maximize cuteness:

And of course, the crib:

So the room looked like this at this point:

and

Next it was time to work on the walls...
Charlie built shelves:

And one with a rod to hang clothes:

With the "hardware" in place, it was time to decorate and fill up the room:
It started with one outfit...

...and became...well:

And this blank wall...

...became this tree:

This space...

...became:

The crib...

...became:

And finally this space...

...became:

Woo-Hoo!!!

Katie playing with Charlie
This clip is a little on the longish side (41 seconds)
It's also a little on the adorable-ish side.

A first for "Mom"
A guest post by Jackie:
It is one thing to know you are going to be a mom. It is another thing to hear yourself called "Mom." But to actually fill out a form for this little person and under relationship to actually see it in writing. Wow. That's crazy.

Sweet gift (bad pun)
Meeting new friends--The Lecci's
Katie got to meet some of our good friends from STRONG ISLAND. James preached at New Hope Sunday, and then stopped by afterward with his wife Meghan.

Then they raced RIGHT HOME, in an effort to beat the storm.
Well, ok, they may have made one small stop on the way.

Richters heading home, just beat the STORM
My parents' flight back to Kentucky left at 3:00pm (LGA to Nashville, TN) last Sunday, just hours before the BIGGEST SNOWSTORM OF THE WINTER blanketed NYC and the east coast.
My little sister was not so lucky. Her flight from Philly to ATL was cancelled altogether. Anyway, here are some pics of Katie saying good-bye for now to Grandma and Grandpa.
And Grandpa, don't worry it only LOOKS like he is about to drop her. She is safe and happy...
And of course, a couple of the obligatory family poses...

Too many great captions to pick just one...
Now this is a great shot of baby doing what she does best...showing off.
What should the caption be? Leave a comment with your idea.
The ones I have already thought of are...
"Check out my muscles, BABY!"
"What has two thumbs and likes to spit-up? THIS GAL!"
"I grow tired of even my own sock puppet acts."
I know someone out there can do better..

Meeting Aunt Susie
Katie had a big day Saturday, when her aunt Susie came in from Atlanta (via Philly to see boyfriend Mitchell) to meet her! We had a great time, and Susie got to witness (and catch on camera) the muscle flexing shot...see future post for that.
Almost Forgot...
The contents of the letter, you must be wondering?
BEHOLD...
This is an AWESOME inside joke from some dear friends at First Baptist Church Fayetteville, GA. They had invited me to speak for their youth at a retreat in Gatlinburg, TN. I couldn't make it this year, (in fact they were there during Katie's birth) Gatlinburg is an interesting place. It is the home of, among other things, biscuits and Gravey (sic), the Dixie Stampede, and lots and lots of Airbrushed, uh...art?

Katie's adoring fans sending her mail?
Being a parent is full of so many funny "firsts," but I have found they are usually the things you don't think of...meaning not the major firsts--such as the ones we will dutifully record in her baby book (which we just ordered, better late than never...). You know, first tooth, first drawing, first words, etc.
Anyway, it is the "lesser firsts" that give me pause as a dad--like this one: The first time I went to the mail box and found a letter addressed to Katie Richter. No care of Tom Richter, no Jackie Richter and BABY, just a letter to Katie. This is her first piece of mail? Probably not. But it was the first time it dawned on me that there is a third person in my house who could receive missives. Yikes.
